Dublin Eats

There is nothing more enjoyable than finding a great place to eat in Dublin. For the past few years there has been a bit of a food renaissance happening in the city, and I love it! After studying in Dublin for four years, and exhausting all the local retreats around Trinity, I decided to expand my food horizon's and find new places to eat! Below is my guide to Dublin eats!

Best Breakfast:
Kilkenny Shop:  Kilkenny is by far my favourite place for breakfast. Very reasonably priced at €6 for the Potter's, which is a four item, tea/coffee and toast affair! The scrambled eggs are creamy and delicious and the bacon is marinated in some sort of sauce from the Gods. Fast and centrally located, with great views into Trinity College!

Quick Lunch/Takeaway:

  • Ray's Pizza - loved this place since first year. Lovely New York pizza slices!
  • Little Ass Burrito - best burritos in Dublin, their meat is of a really high standard and the lime rice is amazing.Try the Pukka Poya!

Best Coffee/Cake/Light Lunch:

  • Brother Hubbard - my favourite cafe in Dublin! Lovely homemade feel to this quirky cafe on Dublin's Capel Street. Beautiful cakes - especially the brownie's. Really nice little covered garden out back with herbs growing up the walls! Great alternative coffee shop with a nice atmosphere and friendly staff!
  • Queen of Tarts - an old favourite, always packed to the rafters every hour of the day. Lovely old time tea shop on Cow's Lane or just around the corner at their second location on Dame Street.
  • Cup - great coffee and tea, selection of sweet treats and gourmet sandwiches. I love the Prosciutto one! Delicious!
  • Walter Mitty's - love the decor in this little coffee shop just doors from my favourite book shop Hodges Figgis on Dawson Street. Lovely hot chocolate and a nice selection of tasty pastries, cakes, sandwiches and salads. Always packed with students around lunchtime.

Best Lunch/Dinner/ Substantial Meal:

  • Bison Bar - The all meat menu probably isn't great for vegetarian friends. If you are a meat lover, then this is the place for you! Small, but well considered menu, with all your favourite American greats such as pulled pork and Brisket. The portions are huge and the quality is great!
  • Fallon & Byrne - I love this place. The service is impeccable. The food is superb and the beautiful mocktails they make me are amazing. The seasonal menu is well put together using fine ingredients and pairing them together perfectly. Beautiful steaks and surreal desserts too pretty to eat. I also love their deli downstairs for sandwiches and takeaway lemon meringue!
  • Damson Diner - The staff in here are so friendly! I love the laid back but sophisticated surroundings and the food is to die for! There is something for everyone on the menu, but the chicken wings and hot dogs are to die for. They are doing everything right at this edgy restaurant.
  • Whitefriar Grill - one of the few places I have ever been where the starter is as inspiring as the main. I had the melon wrapped in parma ham and mixed leaves. It was mouth watering and one of the nicest dishes I have had in Dublin. Lovely steaks as well! Very well priced
  • Bunsen - best burgers in Dublin by a mile. Gooey, well sourced ingredients, simple to the point menu. Lovely fries and milkshakes in a laid back setting. My burger addiction is always satisfied here.
  • Bull & Castle - great steaks from F.X. Buckley, and the battered mars bar is so so ridiculously glutenous and delicious. Make a reservation!
  • Pitt Bros BBQ - Love the free whipped ice cream! Great BBQ restaurant! Go for the chicken or ribs!
